Davidia -

The handkerchief tree (Davidia involucrata) is aptly named due to the fact that its flowers resemble handkerchiefs. Gardeners, however, have to wait around 10 years to enjoy the tree's unique blossoms: only after reaching maturity does the drought-tolerant handkerchief tree begin to produce its first flowers and only then does it lose its slight sensitivity to frost. The tree was named after the French missionary and botanist Jean Pierre Armand David who discovered the tree in the Chinese province of Sichuan in 1868.
