Nativity Scene Exhibition in the Trinkhalle
During Advent, the cloistered gallery of the historic Trinkhalle is transformed into an atmospheric gallery of Christmas culture: the nativity scene exhibition is one of the quiet highlights of the Baden-Baden Christmas market. Twenty-eight masterfully crafted nativity scenes show how diverse and lively nativity art can be today – from Alpine traditions and Baroque carvings to modern interpretations with burl wood and an oriental flair.

A lovingly handcrafted stable with snow, combined with 9 cm tall Demetz nativity figures. Each figure is carved from wood and then artfully painted – an authentic piece of traditional Val Gardena woodcarving.
A traditional special stable, made from a striking nativity block, which creates a warm, timeless Christmas atmosphere. The detailed figures of the ox and donkey complement the ensemble and lend it a lively naturalness. The artistic painting with oil paints emphasises the depth and colour intensity and makes this stable a real eye-catcher in the nativity scene exhibition.
An atmospheric oriental stable, lovingly designed with typical architectural details and a decorative palm tree as a striking eye-catcher. The scene is complemented by the Sonia figures, which bring traditional life in the nativity scene to life with their fine hand-painting – a harmonious ensemble full of warmth and cultural charm.
Traditionally crafted stable with straw roof, complemented by 12 cm tall figures made of fine Swiss stone pine. Swiss stone pine is a soft, light wood with a characteristic scent that is easy to work with and has antibacterial properties. It is known for its rustic appearance with a lively grain and is therefore often used for furniture, wall panelling and wood carvings. Each piece is hand-carved and hand-painted – an expression of genuine South Tyrolean craftsmanship.

Norbert Kleinlercher is a nativity scene builder from Tyrol. His nativity scenes are particularly special, as he builds them inside old wine barrels with a capacity of 100 to 200 litres. This Tyrolean-style nativity scene is located inside a cut-open barrel and depicts the scene inside – rustic, unusual and charmingly staged. He collects the materials in spring in his native Tyrol. It takes more than 150 hours of work to complete such a special nativity scene. Even the roof shingles are cut individually.
